Case 3 South Africa Ostrich Farm TWS Technology ESS 3

Oudtshoorn (South Africa) | Ostrich Farming & Climate Resilience

The Challenge

South Africa’s frequent national load shedding posed an existential threat to ostrich breeding and processing operations in Oudtshoorn. Furthermore, the local environment—characterized by extreme heat and high humidity—demands equipment with exceptional thermal management and environmental sealing to prevent battery degradation.

The Solution

We deployed a high-capacity 3000 kW / 3727 kWh Distributed PV + ESS solution. The project features 10 sets of ProeM Liquid-Cooling Cabinets and 1500 kW PCS. The units are equipped with advanced high-thermal-conductivity liquid cooling and an Intelligent Environmental Control System, specifically engineered to maintain optimal cell temperatures despite the harsh South African climate.

Key Outcomes

The system is integrated with Black Start and off-grid capabilities, allowing critical breeding loads to remain powered immediately during a grid blackout. By discharging during morning and evening peak hours, the project stabilizes the local supply and reduces regional carbon emissions by approximately 3,510 tons per year.
